This is a lovely butterfly I've made out of owl pellet remains. She contains bones of mice, small birds and shrews.
How I worked on this piece: I've dissected each owl pellet, then I've cleaned the bones and whitened them. I put all the bones in sections and put the same bones together. Then I chose the bones I was gonna work with. After the bones were clean and ready to work with, I've used tweezers and a tooth pick to position them until I had a design. Then each bone had been carefully glued on the background, again using tweezers.
Note that some bones, in particular skulls are naturally damaged but I like to work with those parts too.
The frame is 25cm x 25cm and is 3,5cm deep. The inner mount is 16cm x 16cm. The circle has a diameter of 13cm and the butterfly measures 7cm. This frame can stand or can hang on the wall.
The glass is taken out for photos but will be put back in before posting it.
